Saturday 6 October 2012

Mostly involves water.

Life is continuing at a fairly normal pace now we are settled in a house with essentially just a fridge and internet connection to keep us company. It's actually all anyone needs in life. Anyway the first Monday in October is a public holiday in New South Wales so I took the girls to the Maritime Museum for an historical appraisement of Australia's seafaring past i.e. submarines and pirates.

Pirates!

Submarine!

After the brilliant and overly dramatic sub we went onto this! Captain Cook's Endeavour, the ship that discovered Australia! Because it didn't exist until he saw it, clearly.

We liked the Endeavour: it made us want to be pirates (due to no other frame of reference). So we went to Pirate World!

This kind of thing will remain amusing for years.

Pirates in need of fish and chips

After fish and chips we caught the ferry to nowhere in particular because it delivers views like these:

Not bad. What has been "bad" this weekend has been the weather. (Well, according to Australians that is. It's just a bit rainy, really nothing much to shout about, but honestly they do go on about it a bit.) We still went to the beach though - this time Maroubra.

The surfers were out in force.

We don't need sunshine to have a good time. Just coffee and/or apple juice.

Basically he couldn't see anything all morning.

Only other thing of note is being down at the sea at night. Pretty fun although Florence's belief that she will be eaten by a wolf increases exponentially with darkness despite regular reassurance it'll more likely be a shark.

Coogee lights in the background

That's all for now: here are some rubber cheeks:
